Montevallo Falcons Stop Pacers, 3-1

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team (22-10, 11-2 PBC) won its eighth-straight match with a 3-1 victory over USC Aiken (14-15, 6-8 PBC). Senior Rebecca Dowd (Dothan, Ala./Providence Christian School) led the team with 14 kills while adding nine digs and two blocks. Four other Falcons had double-digit kills for a well-rounded attack.

Freshman Taylor Chapman (Killen, Ala./Lexington) added another double-double to her resume as she had 11 kills and 14 digs. Redshirt-freshman Manyi Ati (Lawrenceville, Ga./Grayson) had 10 kills, a team-high five blocks and three digs. Sophomore Virginia Clay (Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre) added 10 kills and four blocks while freshman Michelle Carle (Sugar Land, Texas/Clements) had 10 kills and two blocks.

Sophomore libero Brittany Wilson (Floyds Knobs, Ind./Floyd Central) led the team in digs with 26 while junior setter Anna Garrison (LaVergne, Tenn./LaVergne) added another double-double with 49 assists and 16 digs.

Junior defensive specialist Rachel Wotitzky (Punta Gorda, Fla./Charlotte) had 13 digs.

The Falcons jumped out to an early lead in the first set but fell late as the Pacers took a 26-24 victory. UM then won the next three sets 25-20, 25-19 and 25-18. As a team UM had a .194 hitting percentage but turned it on late as they hit .273 and .256 in the final two sets.

The Falcons will return to action tomorrow, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. as they host Lander University for the final regular season match of the year.
