Northwest's Winning Streak Snappedy by No. 8 UCM

WARRENSBURG, Mo.—The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team’s three-match winning streak was snapped Friday night as the Bearcats were swept by No. 8 Central Missouri 17-25, 10-25 and 8-25.

The loss drops the Bearcats to 14-12 overall and 10-7 in the MIAA. Central improves its record to 26-4 overall and 16-2 in the MIAA.

Alex Hanna led the Bearcats with seven kills in the loss. Laira Akin had 18 assists for Northwest to go along with five digs, a solo block and a block assist. Amber Ryan and Whitney Mason each had three kills. Mason also added a block assist.

Paige Spangenberg led Northwest with 11 digs. Tori Beckman and Rachel Nisi each added four digs for the Bearcats. Northwest hit just .011 in the match while the Jennies hit .361 and had five fewer attack errors than Northwest.

Central Missouri had seven service aces in the match while the Bearcats failed to record an ace for the first time this season.

Northwest will return to action next week for three matches. The Bearcats will host Missouri Western and Truman on Wednesday and Friday, respectively at 7 p.m. The Bearcats’ regular season finale will be on Saturday when they travel to Missouri Southern.
