VIENNA, WV (November 18, 2010) – As an indication of the team’s continued improvement, the men’s and women’s Ohio Valley University cross country teams will compete at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Atlantic Regional on November 20 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
“We are in the rebuilding phase of our cross country program at OVU and the team has made several steps in the right direction this year,” said Rick Dobson, OVU head cross country coach. “Every player on the team has beaten their personal records this season and we are peaking at just the right time to prepare for the regional meet.”
The regional meet will be held at the Saint Augustine’s College at WakeMed Soccer Park in Raleigh, N.C. The University competed in the NCAA regional in 2004-05, 2006-07 and 2007-08.
“Our four freshman men’s cross country runners, Kyle Browne, Michael Cornell, Benjamin Murphy and John Page, are the building blocks of the program,” said Dobson. “Kyle is a redshirt and John, Michael and Ben always finish in the top five at competitions on the men’s team. Murphy has set two school records at the University during his first season, the record for the 8k by completing it in 28:06 minutes and the meet record for the 5k with a time of 16:18.”
