HPU Women’s Basketball Falls To Sonoma State

Chico, CA (11/19/10) – At the Coslet Cassic, the HPU women’s basketball team was defeated by Sonoma State University, 56-49. The Seawolves win their season opener while the Sea Warriors fall to 1-2.

Skye Savini paced HPU off the bench. She scored 14 points on 7-12 shooting and added three steals. Jazzmin Awa-Williams added seven points and six rebounds for the Sea Warriors, who were just 2-12 from three-point range.

Jaclyn Bisordi led SSU with 13 points on 4-7 shooting.

HPU trailed 27-21 at the break after Sonoma State ended the first half on a 10-2 run. In the second half, Bisordi expanded the lead on a three-pointer to give her team a 34-25 advantage. A pair of buckets by Savini and a jumper by Awa-Williams brought the Sea Warriors back, as they trailed 34-31 less than five minutes into the second half.

Sonoma regained the momentum and HPU never got closer than six points until a three-pointer by Melody Ladrido cut the lead to 54-49 with 14 seconds to play.

HPU returns to the court tomorrow, November 20, for its second and final game of the tournament. The Sea Warriors take on host Chico State at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
