Women ranked No. 28; Men ranked No. 41 in Division II national poll
SKILLMAN, N.J. (Tennis) – Although Florida Tech’s spring season is still a few months away, both the men and women received some attention in the Campbell’s/International Tennis Association Preseason National and Regional Polls.
The men will begin the 2011 season ranked No. 41 in the nation and No. 8 in the South. Next spring, head coach Bill Macom’s squad will be led by seniors Alfonso Durate, Drew Hollis, James McLane, D.J. Pate, Stuart Perkins and Yan Carlo Rodriguez. The group will look to provide guidance to the team’s newcomers, junior William Fountain and freshman Richard Pentecostes, who both saw action on the courts during Tech’s fall ledger.
Fresh off their first NCAA Tournament win, the Panther women will head into the New Year at No. 28 in the nation and No. 7 in the region. Individually, Katarina Huba earned recognition as she is ranked among the top 25 singles players in the nation, coming in at 24th. In the South Region poll, she currently holds down the 10th spot. Additionally, she and teammate Monica Price were tabbed ninth in the region in doubles.
In the spring, Macom’s women’s team will be paced by senior Sarah Collins and juniors Abigail Greif, Huba, Price and Alexis Weinnig. Anxiously waiting to make an impact are true freshmen Elizabeth Hensley and Aly Ruschak.
The Panther men and women are slated to jumpstart their 2011 season in the first week of February.
