Schedule includes 25 home games, 16 contests at Lake Olmstead
AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Opening Day for the Augusta State Baseball program has been slated for Friday, Feb. 4 2011, according to a recent announcement from Jaguar head coach Chris Cooper.
The Jaguars’ 2011 schedule includes 25 home games and 16 contests at Lake Olmstead Stadium, the home of the Augusta GreenJackets -- the Class A affiliate of the World Series Champion San Francisco Giants.
ASU renews its annual series with Carson-Newman in a three-game set to open the season on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 4-5 at Lake Olmstead. The Jags begin their 24-game Peach Belt Conference schedule with a three-game home series vs. Flagler on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 26-27 at LOS.
The schedule features five meetings with PBC-rival USC Aiken, including four in Augusta, between March 30 and April 20. The 2011 PBC Tournament is slated for May 8-12, although the site of the tourney has yet to be determined.
“Once again, we will face one of the toughest non-conference schedules in our region, which should give us a chance to see what kind of team we have going into conference play,” Cooper said. “I am very confident that if we go out and lay it on the line every day, we have just as good a chance as anyone to be there in the end. We have a young group of guys with a couple of veterans sprinkled in, so it will be interesting to see what happens. As always, leadership, trust, and hard work will be the cornerstone of this team.”
In their first season under Cooper in 2010, the Jags posted a 16-31 overall record and a 5-18 Peach Belt Conference mark.
