MARYVILLE, Mo.—Six Northwest Missouri State players scored in double figures as the Bearcats blew-out Southwestern (Kan.) College Friday night in the opening night of the Winstead-Reeves Classic in Bearcat Arena 102-64.
Gabby Curtis and Kyla Roehrig each scored 20 points to pace the Bearcats. Roehrig added six rebounds, four blocks and hit 9-of-10 shots from the floor. Curtis had a team-high six assists and added three blocks in the win.
Abby Henry chipped in with 13 points, four assists and had a game-high six steals. Tara Roach scored 11 for Northwest (2-0) and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Emily Hauder and Shelly Martin each had 10 points in the win.
Northwest forced 35 Moundbuilder turnovers, scoring 39 points off of them. The Bearcats shot 46 percent from the floor and hit just under 37 percent from beyond the arc. Southwestern hit just over 32 percent of their shots and was 6-for-24 from three-point range. The Bearcats also had 40 points in the paint in the game.
After trailing 9-6 with 16:15 remaining in the opening half, the Bearcats went on a 14-2 run and never looked back, shooting 52 percent in the first half and built a 52-36 lead at the break. Northwest opened the second period much the same, going on a 28-10 run to open the final half.
Northwest will face William Jewell Saturday night in the second night of the Winstead-Reeves Classic. William Jewell defeated Briar Cliff 81-64 in the opening game of the evening.
