DENVER, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team held off Pittsburgh-Johnstown in the final seconds to earn a 74-70 victory on Saturday afternoon at Regis University.

Andrea Dalton buried a three at 15:36 mark and UPJ led for the remainder of the period clinging to a two-point lead at the break.

The Orediggers shot just 35.9 percent in the first half while the Lady Cats shot 48 percent from the floor but Mines kept the game close pulling down 13 first half offensive rebounds.

The two teams traded baskets to begin the second half and Mines grabbed its first lead since the opening minutes of the game as Brecca Gaffney scored in close and Allie Grazulis completed the three-point play.

CSM would twice increase its lead to six points but each time the Lady Cats answered outscoring Mines 6-1 in a one-minute span to pull within one point at 61-60 with 4:56 remaining in the game.

Katie Clements pushed the Oredigger lead to three points but Dalton quickly drained a jumper and knocked down a three pointer to give UPJ a two-point lead with 3:31 on the clock.

Gaffney scored going to the basket and Angie Charchalis came away with a steal which led to a pair of free throws by Gaffney. Gaffney converted at the line giving Mines a 70-67 lead with just under one minute remaining.

A quick bucket by Dalton and the Lady Cats cut their deficit to one but a foul by Kelly Goode sent Charchalis to the line with nine seconds left in the game. Charchalis sank both free throws giving Mines a three-point lead.

CSM fouled to prevent a UPJ look at the three point shot. Sara Trimarco made her first free throw and attempted to miss the second but Grazulis collected the board. Grazulis iced the game with two free throws and two seconds remaining to give Mines the win.
