The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team closed out the 2010 regular season with a 0-0 draw against the visiting Limestone College Saints. The Abbey, which clinched the regular season title Tuesday night and will be the top seed in next week's Conference Carolinas Tournament, moves to 15-1-2 overall and 9-0-1 in Conference Carolinas, while Limestone is now 7-7-2 overall and 5-4-1 in Conference Carolinas.
Belmont Abbey dominated the match, outshooting Limestone 22-3, including 15-0 in the second half and both overtimes, and holding an 11-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Abbey had all of the scoring chances in the match, including a goal in the first half that was nullified by an offsides call.
Nicole Voets had the Abbey's best scoring chance with 12 seconds left in regulation, as she fired a header off of a Kristin Foster corner kick off the crossbar. Earlier in the match, in the 64th minute, Voets almost found the back of the net, as she redirected a shot that was going to the far right corner, but a Saints defender kicked it away at the goal line.
In the 97th minute, Rebecca Mateo almost ended the match when she lifted a long, left footed shot from the right side to the far post, but Saints goalkeeper Kristin Alderson-Fleagle raced over and smothered it just before it went into the net.
Fleagle made 13 saves, while counterpart Anna Donaldson made two.
