No. 4 Bloomsburg Holds Off No. 3 ESU Field Hockey, 1-0

EAST STROUDSBURG – Amanda Riley scored 4:28 into the game and Meghan Hollenbach made six saves as No. 4 Bloomsburg knocked off No. 3 East Stroudsburg, 1-0, in PSAC East field hockey on Saturday afternoon at Whitenight Field.

Riley’s 12th goal of the season gave the Huskies (12-2, 5-1) the early lead that they did not relinquish as they fought off ESU’s bid for its first sweep of the season series in school history. The Warriors (14-3, 5-2) posted a 3-2 win at Bloomsburg on Oct. 2 and are 5-38 vs. the Huskies in the all-time series.

Both teams had 11 shots and ESU held an 8-7 advantage in shots as the action picked up in the second half. ESU also led 16-6 in penalty corners – 7-2 in the first half and 9-4 in the second half. Junior goalkeeper Maureen Ordnung made five saves for the Warriors, who were ranked No. 2 in the NCAA Division II South Region entering the week, followed by Bloomsburg at No. 3.

Bloomsburg holds a half-game lead in the race for the No. 1 seed in the PSAC East. The Huskies have two games remaining, against Kutztown and C.W. Post, while ESU finishes its division schedule on Nov. 13 vs. Millersville in a rematch of the Marauders’ 1-0 upset of then-No. 1 ESU on Oct. 16.

The Warriors are off until next Sunday when they travel to Slippery Rock for a non-conference game. They host No. 1 Shippensburg on Thursday, Nov. 11 and Millersville two days later to finish the regular season.
