BLOOMSBURG—Bloomsburg University’s Juan Castaneda (Shamokin, Shamokin Area) swam the second fastest 100-fly time in Division II on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough as the Huskies lost to West Chester by a score of 163-99 at the Nelson Field House pool.
Castaneda, BU’s record holder in the event, posted a mark of 50.48 seconds, and in the process posted the second best time this season in Division II and also achieved and NCAA “B” cut time. His time was also the second fastest in school history behind his record 50.03 mark.
In addition to Castaneda’s first place finish the Huskies also got a first from Mike Wallace (Bloomsburg, Bloomsburg) in the 50-free in 21.59 seconds (sixth best mark in school history), Ben Safran (Doylestown, Central Bucks West) in the 200-fly in 2:01.28 andJohn King (Ridley Park, Ridley) in the 1000-free in 10:08.54 (eighth fastest time in school history).
In relay action the team of Ryan Lightner (Lebanon, Cedar Crest), Tim Dorsch (Schwenksville, Souderton Area), Castaneda and Wallace posted a mark of 3:37.33 in the 400-medley relay to take first place in that event.
The Huskies host Edinboro and Kutztown on Nov.6 in the final home meet of the season.
