Otters Swim Past Lady Penguins

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's basketball team fell 72-44 to Cal State Monterey Bay in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Conlan Center.

Cal State Monterey Bay used a balanced attack, scoring 34 points inside and 18 points inside to stay undefeated at 7-0. The Lady Penguins (2-8) were limited to 14-of-49 (.286) shooting on the night and were outrebounded 40-29.

Erika Ward led the Otter offense and all players with 13 points. Michelle Santizo added nine points and Kris King came off the bench to add nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.

The Lady Penguins were led by freshman guard Kayla Valentine's nine points. Senior guard Kelsey Janusch added seven points in the loss.

Dominican hopes to find its stride in 2011, when the Lady Penguins begin Pacific West Conference play on Saturday, January 8 at the University of Hawai'i, Hilo.
