Newman Basketball Hosts Tabor Monday at 7:30

WICHITA - The Newman men's basketball team looks for its third-straight win Monday night when they play host to the Tabor Bluejays. Tip-time for the contest is slated for 7:30 p.m. inside Newman's Fugate Gymnasium.

About the Jets...
Newman is 4-4 after the first eight games of the season, and have taken on some of the toughest competition the South Central region has to offer, including the likes of Lone Star Conference foes Southwestern Oklahoma State (W, 91-78), West Texas A&M (L, 83-68), Angelo State (W, 77-69), and No. 11 Tarleton State (L, 83-54), and MIAA rivals Pittsburg State (L, 95-68) and Fort Hays State (L, 84-71).

The Jets are led by Keaton Schultz, a senior guard from Neodesha, Kan., who is averaging 14.1 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. Will Burdette, a senior transfer forward from the Northeastern Mississippi Junior College, scores 13.1 points and grabs a team-high 5.0 rebounds per game, while Eric Saunders, who has stepped into the point guard position after the injury to Bobby Wesley in the opening game of the season, can be counted on for 10.0 points and 5.3 assists per game.

Scouting Tabor...
The Bluejays bring an 6-3 record into Monday's contest after a 69-57 win over Sterling Saturday in Hillsboro. The win was Tabor's third in their last four tries. Tabor is no stranger to playing outside of the NAIA. The Bluejays already have exhibition contests at NCAA Div. I Northern Colorado (L, 93-52) and NCAA Div. II Colorado Mines (L, 87-69) under their belts. .

Damon Dechant has emerged as Tabor's leading scorer this season. The 6-6 senior forward averaging 16.4-points and 7.1 rebounds per game this season, and is the only Bluejay averaging double figures. Lawson Kingsley, a 5-10 sophomore guard, is next in line with 8.8 points per game

Tonight's game will be counted as an exhibition contest for the Bluejays.

Last Time These Two Met...
Keaton Schultz drained four three's on his way to a game-high 16 points, while Justin Berry and Jaray Mathews each added 12 points of their own as Newman picked up a 73-60 win over the Bluejays on Nov. 16, 2009 inside Fugate Gymnasium. Newman shot .438 (28-64) from the field in the win.

The Series....
Newman leads the all-time series with the Threshers 12-8. Tabor's last win came on Nov. 7, 2006 when the Bluejays picked up an 65-63 win on the Jays' home court in Hillsboro, Kan. The Jets have won each of the last four meetings. .
