Minnesota State Opens 2010 Falcon Invite

Two-Day Event Runs Through Saturday

Minneapolis, Minn. --- The Minnesota State men’s swimming team opened the 2010 Falcon Invite Friday.  The two-day event features two divisions and features only swimming events. The event, which is being swam at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center is hosted by the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

The Mavericks saw a pair of relay teams qualify for Friday night’s finals in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing fourth with a time of 1:27.54 and fifth with a time of 1:28.65.

In the 400-yard medley relay, the Mavericks finished third with a time of 3:30.30 and sixth with a mark of 3:41.93.

Individually, several Mavericks swam to top-16 finishes including: senior Chris Gogel (fifth-place, 500-yard freestyle, 4:53.96; fifth-place, 200-yard freestyle, 1:45.54), junior Matt Chida (second-place,200-yard IM, 1:55.27), freshman Dylan Woldt (sixth-place, 200-yard IM, 2:01.34; eighth-place, 200-yard butterfly, 2:00.39), freshman Seth Cayce (10th-place, 200-yard IM, 2:04.53; 10th-place, 100-yard breaststroke, 1:01.79), freshman Tony Spiel (13-place, 200-yard IM, 2:15.40),  sophomore Tom Gasnick (third-place, 50-yard free, :21.44), junior Dan Wright (13th-place, 50-yard free, :22.33), freshman Blake Asbury (10th-place, 50-yard freestyle, :22.05), sophomore Keaton Brown (11th-place, 50-yard freestyle, :22.25),  freshman Nick Jobeun (fifth-place, 200-yard backstroke, 1:59.13), sophomore Sam Heidlek (ninth-place, 200-yard backstroke, 2:06.83), senior Brian Parks (third-place, 100-yard breaststroke, :58.86), sophomore Shane Bjork (12th-place, 100-yard breaststroke, 1:03.71), senior Romnick Howard (13th-place, 100-yard breaststroke, 1:05.43), freshman Tony Spiel (13th-place, 200-yard butterfly, 2:11.76),  sophomore Paul Pallardy (14th-place,  200-yard freestyle, 1:49.36).

The two-day long event concludes Saturday.  The Minnesota State divers will take place in the St. Cloud State Diving Invitational Saturday as well.
