BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University’s women’s basketball team saw its three game winning-streak halted following a 69-53 loss to Eckerd in both team’s Sunshine State Conference opener Saturday night. Chelsea Patterson led the Fighting Knights with 13 points while Linsey Niles had a game-high 16 points for the Tritons. Lynn’s record evens to 4-4 overall and drops to 0-1 in the SSC.
Sharp shooting put Eckerd (7-2, 1-0 SSC) on top early and kept it there as the Tritons shot 61% for the game. Ashley Lutz scored the opening basket with a three-pointer but Patterson followed with a three of her own. Unfortunately for LU, that would be as close as it would get. Eckerd jumped out to a double-digit advantage midway through the first half and never looked back.
Lynn committed just eight turnovers on the night and out-rebounded EC 33-32 but couldn’t get over its 27.6% shooting from the field. Marquis Lee also reached double-figures in scoring, adding 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting while also recording four steals. Natalie Basore led the team with nine rebounds.
The Fighting Knights return to action Wednesday, December 29, when they host the LU Courtyard by Marriott Boca Raton Christmas Classic. Barry goes up against Wilmington (Del.) at 2 p.m. and the Blue & White will follow with a game against Milligan at 4 p.m. Fans can follow the action live by logging on to www.LynnFightingKnights.com and selecting “Game Central.”
