Valdosta, Ga. - Lynn University’s men’s basketball team fell to Valdosta State, 90-67, Friday night at The Complex on the campus of VSU. The Fighting Knights fall to 1-4 on the season while the Blazers improve to 6-2.
Jimmy Gaskins, who was playing just minutes from his hometown of Waycross, Ga., scored a career-high 26 points on 8-of-11 shooting. The junior college transfer had 15 of his points in the first half, surpassing his previous career-high of 11. The six-foot-four wing also had a career-high eight rebounds and went 9-of-13 from the line.
Down ten at the half, Lynn came out firing on all cylinders and went on a 20-9 run to take a 54-53 lead with 14:30 to go after a jumper by Gaskins.
The lead was shortly lived, however, as Valdosta made a couple of quick threes and easy layups to take control of the game.
The Fighting Knights shot even with the Blazers at 45 percent from the field, but Valdosta was blazing from three-point range and sunk 13 on the night. Lynn was also hurt by a poor performance at the free throw line, shooting just 54 percent for the game as VSU made 19-of-23.
Terrell Williams and Rodney Kennedy also scored in double figures with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Bo Jukic had a game-high nine rebounds.
