Falcons Soar Past Scotties, 72-34

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – For the second-straight game the University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (4-4) dominated its competition downing the Scotties of Agnes Scott College (3-4), 72-34. Senior Carrie Parrott (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Siegel) led all scorers with 16 points while grabbing five boards. Juniors Davia Harris (Memphis, Tenn./Ridgeway) and Taylor Welch (Salem, Ill./Salem Community) each scored 10 points to finish second on the team.

Harris added a team-high eight rebounds while hitting 5-of-8 shots from the field. Junior Tiffany McClure (Montgomery, Ala./G.W. Carver) added eight points as well as a team-high five assists. McClure was 3-for-4 from the field including 1-for-1 from three-point range.

UM shot 51.6 percent for the game while holding ASC to 22.6 percent. UM also forced 27 turnovers which turned into 34 of UM’s 72 points.

The Falcons and Scotties traded baskets for the opening seven minutes of the game. With 13:38 remaining in the first half and the Falcons up 12-11, UM went on a 38-2 run to close out the half. The Falcons entered halftime up 50-13.

The second half was a even period and both teams struggled to get their offenses rolling. UM shot 37.9 percent which was 25 percent lower than their first half stats while the Scotties continued to struggle shooting just 23.3 percent from the field.

The Falcons will return to action Saturday, Dec. 18 at 1:00 p.m. as they travel to Lincoln Memorial University for their final game in 2010.
