After a layoff of over a month, the Adams State men's and women's swimming teams were back in action over the weekend, swimming against Colorado Mines and Colorado College at the Colorado Mines Tri-Meet in Golden, Colo on Saturday, Nov. 13. The men suffered losses in both of their duals, falling 113-11 to Mines and 109-11 against Colorado College. But each of the three Grizzly swimmers in action on the men's side set personal records, and a total of three modern era Adams State records were set. Freshman Max Berumen (Lafayette, Ind.) set two new modern era records, in both the 100 free with a time of 53.93 seconds and in the 200 IM with a clocking of 2:18.74. Meanwhile, freshman Taylor Rousell (Port Orchard, Wash.) topped the prior school mark in the 50 free, touching the wall in 23.65 seconds.
In women's action at Mines, ASC fell in both duals, stumbling against the Orediggers in a 114-21 defeat, but were on the heels of Colorado College in a 78-42 loss. Just like the men, the Adams State women also established a trio of school records during Saturday's action. Freshman Jennell Higgs (Socorro, N.M.) obliterated the old mark in the 200 breast, clocking a time of 2:45.22 to come in under the previous record by more than 16 seconds. Higgs was also on the 200 free relay squad along with fellow freshmen Kelly Erickson (Federal Way, Wash.), Rachel Beranek (Lincoln, Neb.) and Amanda Angelovich (Longmont, Colo.) that set a new ASC standard in 1:47.94. The final ASC record of the day for the women's team came in the 100 fly in which Erickson posted a time of 1:02.81.
Another lengthy break from competition awaits the Grizzlies, who will next be back in action on Dec. 4-5, making their second trip of the season to Grand Junction, Colo. for the Mesa State Invitational. There, both the ASC men's and women's teams will face familiar foes, as they'll be swimming against Colorado College and Mesa State.
