Pitt-Johnstown Volleyball Advances to WVIAC WVIAC Quarterfinals with Win Over WV State
Jessica Heidenthal (Clymer, Pa.) and Taylor Hrescak (Johnstown, Pa.) combined for 21 kills to lead the No. 6-seeded Lady Cat volleyball team to a 26-24, 25-20, 20-25, 25-17 victory over No. 11-seeded West Virginia State University in Thursday's opening round of the 2010 WVIAC Tournament at the Catholic Sports Complex in Charleston, WV. Pitt-Johnstown improved to 13-11.
Pitt-Johnstown advances to the tournament's quarterfinals against No. 3 Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Heidenthal had 11 kills, and Hrescak added 10 kills and 13 digs. Beth Kendera (Johnstown, Pa.) collected nine kills, a block solo and three block assists.
Taylor King (York, Pa.) led the Lady Cats with 18 assists and four service aces, while Kayla Petrilla (Johnstown, Pa.) had 17 assists and nine digs.
Kelsey Kohler's (Johnstown, Pa.) 16 digs paced Pitt-Johnstown.
Head Coach Linda Renzi also got a block solo and two block assists from Kayla Brandle (Johnstown, Pa.) and four block assists from Ashley Dirado (Greensburg, Pa.).
West Virginia State's season came to an end with a 4-21 overall record.
