FMU’s Juric selected to PBC Academic Soccer Team

FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University senior defender Ivan Juric has been named to the 2010 Peach Belt Conference Men’s Soccer All-Academic Team.

The team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. To be eligible, a student-athlete must participate in at least half of his team’s events and be either a starter or significant contributor, achieve a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), and have completed at least one full academic year at his current institution.

The 6-1 native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, started 16 matches this past season and tallied two goals and two assists on nine shots.  He scored the match-winning goal in a 2-1 road win at Newberry College.

In the classroom, Juric owns a 3.38 grade point average as a history major.  He has twice been named to the PBC Presidential Honor Roll and the FMU Swamp Fox Athletic-Academic Honor Roll.  As part of the team’s community service project, he has worked with students at Greenwood Elementary School.
Francis Marion finished the 2010 campaign with a 7-10-1 record, and placed fifth during the PBC regular season.

Juric was a four-year starter who appeared in 76 career matches and registered 20 goals and 11 assists, including five match-winning scores. He was a two-time All-Conference selection, and earned All-Region recognition in 2009.

Founded in 1991, the Peach Belt Conference is home to 29 NCAA Division II National Championships. The PBC includes 13 member institutions in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama.
