Patriots succumb to Saints in three sets

FLORENCE, SC – Senior Meg Weathersby recorded 14 kills while hitting .343 and also dug up 12 balls to pace Flagler College to a three-set (25-16, 25-16, 26-24) victory over Francis Marion University, Saturday afternoon (Nov. 6) in Peach Belt Conference volleyball action.

Francis Marion ends its regular season slate with a 15-15 overall mark and a 4-10 PBC record.  The Patriots will play in the Peach Belt Tournament on Friday in Savannah, Ga.

The win hands Flagler (24-7, 13-1) the PBC regular-season crown.

Freshman Riley Forester registered nine kills to lead FMU, while sophomore Liz Drewry tallied 12 assists, nine digs, and seven kills.  Senior libero Kelsie Deaton had a match-high 22 digs while playing her final home contest.  Senior middle blocker Mallory Eggert recorded five blocks to move up one more spot to ninth on the conference’s career blocks list with 412.

Laura Beth Lancaster added 12 kills for the Saints, while 6-2 senior setter Rebecca Royal handed out 27 assists in only 47 attempts.

The third set was a back-and-forth affair.  FMU claimed a 19-14 advantage only to see the Saints score six straight points.  FMU went back ahead 24-23, but Flagler ratted off the final three points.
