COLUMBUS – After finally being able to tally the score, the Columbus State Rifle team fell to the top-ranked Nannooks of the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Alaska Fairbanks posted a team score of 4645 while CSU shot 4596. CSU won the air rifle portion of the match shooting a 2334 while the Nannooks shot a 2323.
April Dunn continued her outstanding shooting on the year by leading the Cougars with a total score of 1169. Dunn was the top shooter in the air rifle portion of the event with a score of 592 and she finished second in the entire event. Jonathan Hall posted a score of 588 which was second best score in the air rifle event. Juli Yoder and Courtney Duncan rounded out the team scoring in the air rifle portion with scores of 580 and 574 respectively. David Hall shot a 569, but did not count towards the team scoring.
In the smallbore portion of the event Dunn led the Cougars with a 577 which was three points better than teammate J. Hall’s 574. Yoder (560) and Duncan (551) added to the team score of 2262.
Alaska Fairbanks was lead by Mike Liuzza. Liuzza was the top shooter overall posting a score of 1171. He posted a score of 591 in the smallbore event which was the highest score out of all of the shooters. Cody Rutter (1161), Cole Bures, Anna Hjelmuoll (1150) and Aaron Holsopple (1147) complied the rest of the Nanooks team scoring.
Columbus State returns to action this weekend against Jacksonville State University on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. in Jacksonville, Florida. The next home event for the Cougars comes on November 20 when they host the University of Memphis at Fort Benning.
