Lynn University Volleyball Closes Out Home Schedule Against Eckerd, Tampa

BOCA RATON – In the midst of a season-long five-game winning streak, Lynn University’s (18-7, 9-3 SSC) volleyball team closes out its home schedule against Sunshine State Conference rivals, Eckerd and Tampa, this weekend.  The Tritons are in town Friday, November 5, at 7 pm, while the No. 4 Spartans come to Boca Saturday, November 6, at 4 pm.

The matchup with the Spartans will feature seven Fighting Knights seniors who will appear in their final regular season match at the de Hoernle Sports & Cultural Center: Kala Abdell, Katie Bradley, Mallory Deneen, Sophie Gagnon, Haley Pratt, Lacy Redwine and Devon Woolard.  The senior class has amassed an 84-45 record in three-plus seasons and has led Lynn to all three of its NCAA Tournament appearances.

Lynn went 2-0 last week with three-set victories over SSC foes Rollins and Nova Southeastern.  Kala Abdell led the Blue & White in kills and points in both games while recording a double-double 11 kills and 11 digs against the Sharks.  Lacy Redwine is five digs away from breaking the program all-time digs record and head coach Lynze Roos, volleyball’s all-time winningest coach, is just one victory away from 100 career wins.

The Tritons, who gave the Fighting Knights a scare earlier this season in St. Petersburg, are 8-15 and 1-11 in conference play this season.  Eckerd has played better as of late going 3-3 in its last six matches including road wins over Valdosta State and Palm Beach Atlantic.  Lindsay Biggs leads the team in kills with 294, over 100 more than anyone on the Tritons, and is second on the squad in digs to libero Hallie Ward.

No. 4 Tampa (21-3, 10-1 SSC) will look to spoil ‘Senior Night’ for Lynn and come into the week on an 11-match winning streak.  The Spartans have lost just seven sets in those matches which included a 3-1 victory over the Fighting Knights on October 1.  Setter Megan Sherman quarterbacks a well-balanced offense featuring four hitters that can take over any game: Melissa Vanderhall, Kaleigh Cunningham, Jessica Yingling and Danielle Selkridge.  Sam Macks is fifth on the team in kills but is the team’s leading blocker.

Since starting the volleyball program in 1996, Lynn (18-7, 9-3 SSC) has never beaten Tampa and come into the match 0-27 all-time against the Spartans.
