HPU Second In Commissioner's Cup Standings

Phoenix, AZ (11/24/10) – With the fall athletics season complete, Hawai‘i Pacific University rankes second spot in the PacWest Commissioner’s Cup standings. BYU-Hawaii holds a slim lead over HPU for the top spot after taking first place in three of the five fall conference sports.

The Commissioner’s Cup standings are based on the average finish of each team in its respective conference sport. HPU, the PacWest’s reigning Commissioner’s Cup Champion, finished second in women’s cross country and men’s soccer, took third in women’s volleyball and men’s cross country, and tied for second in women’s soccer.

HPU is averaging better than a third-place finish across its entire athletic program – the exact same the Sea Warriors put together a year ago after the fall season.

In winning the Cup in 2009-10, HPU won three conference titles, the most of any PacWest school. Women’s basketball won its first-ever PacWest Championship and baseball won its second in three years. HPU softball won the PacWest for the fourth consecutive season and went on to claim the program’s first NCAA Division II National Championship.

The winter season Commissioner’s Cup competition features men’s and women’s basketball, with four conference sports to follow this spring. PacWest play for the HPU men’s and women’s basketball teams begins January 10 with a four-game home stand.
