Men's Basketball: Yellowjackets Clamp Down On Eastern

DeAndre Chambers scored 24 points to lead Montana State Billings to a 66-60 victory over Big Sky Conference member Eastern Washington Monday evening at Reese Court in Cheney.

“This was our best defensive effort since I've started here,” said MSUB head coach George Pfeifer. “We were really able to shut down their go-to-go guys."

The defense was particularly effective in the first half for MSUB as it held the Eagles to just six field goals in 26 attempts. For the game, Eastern shot 25 percent making 15 of 60.

MSUB also was able to outrebound EWU 45-40 and won despite being outscored 27-13 from the foul line.

In addition to Chambers, who made nine of 17 shots and four of eight treys, Emery Henning and Raason Young also scored in double figures for MSUB.

Henning had 13 points and 10 rebounds while Young had 14 points and eight boards.

The Eagles were led by a pair of 14-point performances from Kevin Winford and Cliff Ederaine, who also had 10 rebounds. Tremayne Johnson had nine points and 10 boards.

Women's Basketball: King Leads NNU Past Coyotes

Briaunna King scored a game-high 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead Northwest Nazarene to a 76-68 exhibition victory over The College of Idaho Monday night at the J.A. Albertson Activity Center.

King led a trio of Crusaders into double-figures as Falissa Smith added 12 points and four rebounds and Monica Garcia scored 10 and dished out a game-high six assists.

The Coyotes were led by Nicole Gall with 13, Marquis Gilliam-Hicks with 11, and Nicole Bruce with 10.

NNU shot 44.9 percent (31-69) from the floor and 43.8 percent (7-16) from the three-point line, while the Coyotes went 26 of 62 (41.9 percent) from the field and 5 of 10 from the arc (50 percent).

With both teams pressing the length of the court, the Coyotes committed 32 turnovers and the Crusaders were right behind with 31.

Volleyball: CWU Sweeps Simon Fraser In Home Finale

Kristel Baeckel had eight kills and five service aces and Kady Try added a match-high 11 kills and three solo blocks as Central Washington defeated Simon Fraser, 25-13, 25-18, 25-18 in its home finale Monday night at Nicholson Pavilion.

The Wildcats (13-9, 11-6) won their final eight home matches of the season. CWU also has won 11 of its last 15 matches overall.

Central also got seven kills from Meg Ryan in outhitting the Clan, which finished its season with a 4-18 record, .212 to .064.

Defensively, Brandie Vea led the Wildcats with 12 digs and Ryan had 10. Carlee Marble led the offense with 30 assists.

Simon Fraser, which finished 4-14 in the GNAC, was led by KJ Fridfinnson and Marina Liarsky with seven kills each. Cheryl Windhorst had six kills and three blocks. Jennifer Neilson also had three blocks.

Yellowjackets Lose To Rocky Mountain

Rocky Mountain had seven fewer kills than Montana State Billings but still cruised to a 25-17, 25-20, 25-23 victory over the Yellowjackets Monday at the Fortin Center.

The Bears controlled the match at the net out blocking MSUB 13-4 and forcing the 'Jackets into 31 attack errors.

Jennifer Boe and Jody Lutz each had 10 kills for MSUB. Jessica Overstreet led Rocky with eight kills and seven blocks.
