ERIE, Pa. - Sophomore Morgan Reineke (New Knoxville, Ohio / New Knoxville) has been named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women’s Volleyball Athlete of the week after helping Gannon to a 2-0 weekend. The award was announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.
Behind Reineke’s performance this weekend, Gannon finished the regular season with a 3-2 win over PSAC West co-champion Clarion and a 3-1 victory against Slippery Rock.
In the win over Clarion, Reineke hit an impressive .412 against a Lady Eagle squad who led the conference in opponent hitting percentage at .116 coming into the match. Clarion was unable to stop the sophomore in the fourth set as she recorded eight of her 16 kills during the frame. She also added 13 digs, two assists and a block assist in the match.
The following night against Slippery Rock, Reineke recorded match-highs with 17 kills and 18 digs. She also tallied two aces and two block assists in the 3-1 victory.
For the week she averaged 3.67 kills and 3.44 digs while hitting .328. Reineke is second on the team in kills (326) and third on the team in digs (196) this season. She is also fifth in the conference in kills per set, averaging (3.37).
Gannon finished the 2010 regular season with a 20-8 record and a 13-6 mark in the PSAC. Gannon will face Clarion in the opening round of the PSAC Tournament on Tuesday, November 9. The match is set to start at 7 p.m.
