COLORADO SPRINGS - Metro State's women's soccer team had five players earn all-conference honors from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference on Tuesday. Madison McQuilliams and Nicole Renko were both first team selections. Aleah DeGeneres was on the second team and Ashley Nemmers and Becca Medina were on the third team.
McQuilliams, a senior midfielder from Bakersfield, Calif., is currently tied for second on the team with six goals and is third with 14 points, assisting on two goals. In conference games, she finisehd sixth in the RMAC in goals and second with three game-winning goals. As a freshman in 2007, she was named RMAC Co-Freshman of the Year and last year, she was named second team all-conference.
Renko, a senior defender from Aurora, Colo., has been a steadying force in the middle of Metro State's defense over the past few seasons. She currently has the best plus/minus rating among Roadrunner defenders at +20. Despite battling injuries following an offseason surgery, she has started all 18 games on defense and helped the team finish third in the RMAC in goals against average and lead the conference in shutouts. Last year, she was named thrid team All-RMAC.
DeGeneres, a junior forward from Littleton, Colo., leads the team with nine goals and 20 points, adding two assists. In conference games, she ranked fourth in the RMAC in goals, seventh in points and eighth in shot attempts. Also on Tuesday, DeGeneres was named ESPN second team Academic All-District.
Nemmers, a senior midfielder/forward from Arvada, Colo., has a team-high seven assists and is tied for second with six goals for 19 points. In conference games, she finished second in the RMAC in assists and 10th in shot attempts.
Medina, a freshman midfielder from Denver, stepped into the starting lineup due to injuries in the back line early in the season and solidified her spot in the lineup with excellent play. She has four assists and two goals for eight points this season. Despite seeing little action in the first three games of the season, she is third on the team in minutes played with 1,492.
Metro State led the RMAC in shutouts (7) this season in conference play, while finishing third in scoring (1.71) and third in scoring defense (0.75 GAA).
The Roadrunners open the RMAC Tournament on Wednesday at Colorado Mines at 3 p.m.
