Brevard vs. Newberry Football Game Day Information

Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College Tornados football team returns to Asheville High School this weekend for the final home contest of the season as the Tornados prepare to recognize 11 seniors and two senior cheerleaders in the pregame festivities, before facing off against SAC opponent Newberry College on Saturday, November 6th.

Brevard (3-6, 0-5 SAC) returns home after falling on the road this past week in a high-scoring affair against Tusculum College, 51-35. Kelvin Jeter broke the 100 yard rushing mark for the sixth time this season, carrying the ball 17 times for 105 yards and a touchdown as the team ran for 299 yards overall on the afternoon. Michael Crumbaker added two touchdown passes in the game to Eric Watts and Thadus Benton III, but the Tornados were unable to stop Bo Cordell and the Tusculum passing attack as the Pioneers had 408 passing yards and seven touchdowns in defeating Brevard.

Newberry (3-5, 2-3 SAC) forced six Carson-Newman turnovers last weekend, but the offense was unable to gain traction against the Eagles’ defense in falling at home, 35-13. David Pressley led the offensive effort in the game for the Wolves, catching 10 passes for 62 yards, while Ron Parker had his fifth interception on the season and Josh Williams had 14 tackles to lead the Wolves’ defensive efforts in the game.

This will be the fifth meeting all time between the two teams, with Newberry holding the 4-0 advantage, including a victory in last season’s season finale for both teams, as the Wolves defeated the Tornados 28-3 at Setzler Field.

The Tornados come into today’s contest with the NCAA’s second-ranked rushing attack, averaging 299.8 yards per game on the ground as a team, led by Jeter, as the freshman back had 930 yards on the year, averaging 103.3 yards per game and 8.9 yards per carry. Neville Bryce, back from an injury, has found the end zone six times in the past two games and is seventh in the conference in averaging 74.6 yards per game on the ground, while quarterback Michael Crumbaker leads the team with 127 carries, while scoring seven times.

Through the air, Crumbaker is 30 of 74 on the year with 498 yards, targeting nine different receivers on the season. Crumbaker has thrown five touchdown passes against seven interceptions, with his main targets in the passing game being Eric Watts and Derek Church. Watts leads the team with 16 receptions for 209 yards and three touchdowns, while Church has four catches for 91 yards. Benton has also played a role in the passing game near the goal line, scoring on both of his receptions.

Defensively, Trey Jenkins leads the Tornados with 67 tackles on the season, including 2.5 tackles for loss on the season. Prince Simunyu has come on strong in the past couple of weeks and is second on the team with 57 tackles and 5.0 tackles for loss, while sitting third on the team with two sacks on the season. Salonik Amos leads the Brevard secondary with 51 tackles on the year, while leading the SAC with 12 passes defensed on the year.

Receivers Pressley and Brandon Bostick lead the Newberry offense on the season, as Pressley leads the team with 67 catches for 891 yards and nine touchdown receptions, while Bostick has hauled in 46 catches for 801 yards and eight scores. Pressley currently is three catches away from breaking the Newberry single season reception mark and is 87 yards away from breaking the school’s record for career receiving yards, while Bostick was named the National Offensive Player of the Week by D2Football.com after their victory against Tusculum College, catching 11 passes for 322 yards and three touchdowns in the game.

Parker Hite has taken the snaps in the past few weeks after a season-ending injury to Bryan Ehrlich and has gone 28 of 55 for the season for 292 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Taniel Massey has also seen time behind center for the Wolves, going seven of 12 for 102 yards. Lyndon Ingram leads the Newberry rushing attack, averaing 5.0 yards per carry on the season, having moved the ball 453 yards on 90 carries, while finding the end zone three times.

Apollo Stretch leads the Newberry defense on the season with 61 tackles, seven of which have come behind the line of scrimmage, while Arterio Arnold has 59 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and is the team leader with three sacks. Parker leads the secondary for the Wolves with 51 tackles and has created eight turnovers for Newberry on the season with five interceptions and three fumble recoveries.

Kickoff for the game between the Tornados and the Wolves at Asheville High School Memorial Stadium is set for Saturday, November 6th, at 2 p.m.

A fan bus will be provided for all BC fans wishing to catch a ride to the Tornados game and will leave Boshamer Gymnasium at 12 p.m.

Saturday’s game is also "Take a Kid to the Game" day, with special guests of the Tornados being the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western North Carolina. Kids receive free admission to the game when they are accompanied by an adult or chaperone, while adults who accompany their kids to the game will receive 50 percent off of the regular admission price.
