The win helped the Tritons stay perfect this season, improving to 3-0, while the Bearcats slip to 2-5.
Senior Kelly Carter added 11 points, while freshman Hanna Haden and sophomore Allie Hogan each chipped in 10 points.
UMSL connected on 35.8 percent from the field, while McKendree, which will join the Tritons in the Great Lakes Valley Conference in 2012-13, shot 33.3 percent, and held a 41-36 rebounding advantage.
UMSL took a 26-19 lead into halftime after outscoring the hosts, 22-8, in the final 8:02 of the first stanza. Moody scored 10 of her 12 points during that stretch, while Haden scored eight points.
The Tritons then built the lead to 40-25 with a pair of Katilin Sweatman free throws at the 13:12 mark before McKendree staged a 16-6 run to trim the deficit to 46-41 with 4:46 remaining. UMSL pushed the lead back to eight at 52-44 with 27 seconds on the clock and managed to hold off the Bearcats in the closing seconds.
Senior Kelcy Hulbert and junior Kiki Robinson each pulled down five rebounds for the Tritons, while Carter dished out three assists. Moody collected three steals
UMSL returns to action Nov. 26, traveling to Rollins, Fla., for the Rollins Thanksgiving Classic.
