Albany State Golden Rams to face Wingate Bulldogs in playoff game

The Albany State University Golden Rams now know who they will play in the second round of the NCAA Division II Football Championship series. The No. 1 Golden Rams and the No. 4 Wingate University Bulldogs will go face-to-face for the first time on Saturday, Nov. 27, in the Super Regional Two second-round game. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at the Albany State University Coliseum.
          
The Bulldogs (9-2) defeated the No. 5 Morehouse College Maroon Tigers 63-41 in the first-round game at Irwin Belk Stadium in Wingate, N.C. Wingate quarterback Cody Haffly threw for 477 yards and seven touchdowns, and led the Bulldogs to 614 yards of total offense on the day.
          
“Wingate is a very explosive team, so we have to be ready to play,” said head coach Mike White. “We are excited to have home field advantage and we have a week to get ready. We just have to be ready to play hard.”
          
Tickets for the playoff game are $15 for adults and $5 for kindergarten through 12th grade students and ASU and opponent team students with a valid ID. Tickets for the Quarterback Club Lounge, which are available to current members only, are $35.00 each. Tickets are on sale at the ASU Business Office Cashier’s Window in the ACAD Building, Odyssey Records, June Bug’s Grocery Store and the Radium Springs Petro Store. In the other Super Regional Two first-round game, the No. 6 University of North Alabama (9-3) upset No. 3 Valdosta State University (8-3). The Lions beat the Blazers 43-20 in Valdosta, Ga. North Alabama will face the No. 2 Delta State University Statesmen (8-3) next weekend in the second-round game at Parker Field-McCool Stadium in Cleveland, Miss.

            Winners of the Albany State vs. Wingate and Delta State vs. North Alabama games will meet Saturday, Dec. 4, in the Division II quarterfinals. The national championship game is Saturday, Dec. 18, at Braly Municipal Stadium in Florence, Ala. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2 HD/ESPN3.com.
