GOLDEN, Colo. (Nov. 5, 2010) – The University of Nebraska – Kearney defeated Colorado School of Mines in four sets (25-23, 25-21, 28-30, 27-25) in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) volleyball action on Friday night, November 5th, at Lockridge Arena.
Kelsey Werner amassed a match-best 23 kills for tenth-ranked Nebraska-Kearney (25-4 overall, 16-1 RMAC). Jeri Walkowiak had 16 kills, Katlyn Heiserman finished with 18 digs and Cola Svec handed out 58 assists.
Four players reached double figures in kills for Mines, including Jackie Stabell (.432 at the net), who led the Orediggers with 17. Hannah Margheim led all players with 24 digs while Elizabeth Serra-Hsu had a 10-kill, 13-dig double-double. Holly Hutchison (.364 hitting %) and Melanie Wannamaker (four block assists) recorded 11 and 12 kills, respectively, and Amanda Massey provided 51 assists. Serra-Hsu and Hutchison each had five block assists for CSM (18-8 overall, 11-6 RMAC).
The Orediggers will conclude the regular-season portion of their schedule by hosting Chadron State College on Saturday evening, November 6th, at 6:00 p.m. (MDT). November 6th will be Senior Night at Lockridge Arena. The CSM seniors will be recognized immediately following the conclusion of Saturday’s contest against the Eagles.
CSM has clinched a berth in the upcoming RMAC Tournament, which will be held on Thursday – Saturday, November 11th – 13th, at Nebraska-Kearney. Visit www.rmacsports.org on Sunday, November 7th, for the tournament seedings and bracket.
The winner of the RMAC volleyball tournament will receive an automatic berth in the 2010 NCAA Division II Volleyball Championships. Eight teams from each of the eight regions will qualify for the 2010 NCAA Division II Volleyball Championships. CSM was ranked eighth in this week’s NCAA Division II Central Region Rankings.
