Tusculum to face ETSU in Women's Basketball Exhibition Game Monday in Johnson City

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College women’s basketball team will play its second exhibition game of the preseason this Monday night as the Pioneers travel to NCAA Division I East Tennessee State University for a 7 p.m. tip-off from the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center in Johnson City.

The Pioneers are coming off a 75-49 victory over Virginia Intermont College on Thursday in an exhibition contest at Pioneer Arena.  Two-time All-American guard Jasmine Gunn led Tusculum with 17 points, while junior forward Staci Hicks tallied 17 markers on 7-of-7 shooting from the floor.

Monday will be ETSU’s first exhibition outing of the preseason.  The Lady Bucs are coming off their best season in school history as ETSU posted 23 wins and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for a third straight year.

In Thursday’s game with Virginia Intermont, four players reached double figures for the Pioneers, who opened the second half with an 11-2 run and closed the game by outscoring the Lady Cobras 20-4 over the final 6:54. Senior center Catherine Hintz tallied 10 points, seven rebounds and seven blocked shots and junior Linda Aughburns came off the bench to contribute 14 points for Tusculum, which converted 30 Virginia Intermont turnovers into 28 points.

Gunn, the Women's Division II Bulletin's Preseason National Player of the Year, went 7-for-10 from the field and added five rebounds and a game-high five assists for the Pioneers, while Hicks equaled Hintz for the team lead with seven boards.

Monday will be the third recorded meeting between Tusculum and ETSU as the Lady Bucs winning the previous two encounters, including a 77-61 win in 2004.

Tusculum fans unable to make the trip to Johnson City can follow the game on-line via video and live stats at www.etsubucs.com.
