Sharbaugh Ties Gannon Women's Soccer Scoring Record; Lady Knights End Season with Loss

ERIE, Pa. - Amanda Sharbaugh (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) will enter her senior season as Gannon's all-time women's soccer scoring leader. The junior midfielder's penalty-kick goal with 3:19 left in regulation was her 34th career score, tying Erin Cray (1997-00) for the most in school history. Unfortunately, it was Gannon's only goal of the afternoon as the Lady Knights concluded the season with a 7-1 loss at rival Mercyhurst.

Gannon fell behind early in the regular-season finale and could not recover. Mercyhurst led 3-0 at halftime following goals in the 26th, 36th and 39th minutes. The Lakers only out-shot the Lady Knights 9-5 in the first half, but found the back of the net with three of those shots.

Head coach Colin Petersen's squad played the final 17:59 of the first half and the entire second half down a player due to a red card in the 28th minute. Mercyhurst took advantage, extending its lead to a commanding 6-0 margin with three more goals during a 17-minute span midway through the second half.

Gannon finally got on the board with 3:19 left in regulation. Sharbaugh netted her team-high ninth goal of the season, converting her first penalty kick of the campaign. She also ended the season second all-time at Gannon with 85 career points, needing only five next season to tie Cray's school record of 90 points. Sharbaugh is fourth all-time at Gannon with 17 career assists, sitting six behind Courtney Rowan's (2005-08) school record of 23.

Sharbaugh's goal wasn't the last score of the match though. Mercyhurst added a seventh goal with 1:45 left in the second half to account for the final 7-1 score.

Mercyhurst out-shot Gannon 20-13 while the Lady Knights had a slight 3-2 edge in corner kicks. A pair of Gannon goalkeepers combined to record six saves while allowing seven goals.

Gannon concluded its season with a 4-10-3 overall record and a 3-8-2 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) mark. Mercyhurst finished the campaign at 8-9-1 overall and 5-8-1 in conference play.
