Women’s Soccer Announces 2010 Team Awards

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State Billings women’s soccer team held a team dinner Saturday evening while head coach Don Trentham announced the 2010 team awards to conclude the most successful season in MSUB soccer history.

The Iron Women Award, which is given to players who played in over 1,650 plus minutes, was giving to sophomore Jennifer Larsen and seniors Samantha Boehm and Lauren Anderson. Larsen was the only player to play in every minute this season, playing in 1,830 minutes. Boehm played in 1,801 minutes, while Anderson clocked 1,764 minutes.

The Scholar-Athlete Award, given to a junior or senior with the highest grade point average with a minimum of four semesters in the program, was also given to Lauren Anderson. Anderson carried a 3.79 GPA in Human Services coming into the season and was named to the GNAC Academic All-Star team for the third time.

Anderson was also the winner of the Next Level Award, which is given to the returning player who took their game to the next level from the previous season. The award is voted on by the players on the team as Anderson earned Honorable Mention GNAC All-Conference honors this season.

The Newcomer of the Year Award is also voted on by the players for the top incoming player of the fall season. That award went to freshman goalkeeper Sabrina Grandke-Bawab. Grandke-Bawab posted an 11-4-1 record this season in 16 starts. She appeared in 19 games, making 51 saves while allowing just 14 goals. She had a 0.80 goals against average and a .785 save percentage, earning Honorable Mention all-conference honors in her first season.

The team Most Valuable Player Award was given to senior Samantha Boehm as voted on by the players. The senior also earned the team’s highest honor in the program, being voted for the Quest for Excellence Award. That award is presented to the player who goes above and beyond in demonstrating teamwork, hard work, dedication, discipline and passion to the MSUB women’s soccer program.

Boehm had a fantastic year on the back line for the Yellowjackets, earning first team all-conference honors after earning honorable mention honors the year before and first team All-Heartland her freshman season. She was also named to the GNAC Academic All-Stars list for the third time as well and was the team captain in 2010.

The Yellowjackets officially end a season that saw them make the program’s first trip to the NCAA Tournament and win a game, defeating Cal State L.A. in the first round, 1-0. The Jackets finished the season 13-6-1, matching the best win total in program history (2006).
