PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Missouri Western football team was well represented on the 2010 Don Hansen All-Super Region Four Team announced Wednesday, December 22. Defensive players Jack Long and Sean Whiters were named to the third team.
Redshirt senior Sean Whiters of Kansas City, Mo. garnered third team honors for the second consecutive season. He was also named All-MIAA first team at the linebacker position. Whiters finished the season tied for second on the squad in total tackles with 68, with 32 being solo. Whiters also had six tackles for a loss of 11 yards. He had with one interception, one pass defended and one fumble recovery. Whiters led the team with five quarterback hurries. Whiters had a season high 11 tackles on October 23 at Missouri Southern.
Redshirt junior free safety Jake Long of Parkville, Mo. found himself on the third team for the first time in his career. Long was also selected to the All-MIAA first team as he anchored the defensive secondary all season long. Long led the team with 75 tackles to go along with 50 solo stops. He also had two interceptions to go along with four pass break-ups and six passes defended. Long had 10 or more tackles four times last which includes a career high 11 twice against Northwest Missouri State and Nebraska-Omaha.
The Griffons made their second trip to the NCAA Division II national playoffs and made their sixth straight appearance into post season play with the other four being in the Mineral Water Bowl.
Missouri Western State University (located in St. Joseph, Mo.) is an NCAA Division II institution and a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
