Tech Athletics to partner with Public Safety Department to collect toys for the U.S. Marine Corps’ annual Toys for Tots campaign at this weekend’s home basketball games

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – The Arkansas Tech Athletics Department has partnered up the Tech Public Safety Department, along with other groups, to collect toys for the United States Marine Corps’ annual Toys for Tots campaign at this weekend’s home basketball games at Tucker Coliseum.

Fans are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the No. 21-ranked Wonder Boys game on Friday at 7 p.m. against Southwestern Christian and the sixth-ranked Golden Suns game at 4 p.m. on Saturday against St. Edwards to receive $1 admission to the games.

Donation boxes, which will be manned by members of Tech’s SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) and the U.S. Marine Corps, will be set up at all three entrances to Tucker Coliseum for fans to drop off their new, unwrapped toy.

“Arkansas Tech Athletics is pleased to be able to participate in this partnership for Toys for Tots,” said Kristy Bayer, Tech’s Assistant Athletic Director, Senior Women’s Administrator and Head Volleyball Coach. “We urge everyone attending either or both of our basketball games this weekend to bring a toy to help brighten the holidays for local children of the River Valley Community.”

The Wonder Boys enter Friday’s home game with Southwestern Christian sporting a 4-2 record after splitting its two games last week in Gulf South Conference Crossover action. Southwestern Christian, who is located in Bethany, Okla., enters with a 1-4 record heading into its home game Thursday with Arlington Baptist College.

Meanwhile, the Golden Suns enter the weekend sporting a 5-1 record following its 66-56 win on Monday at West Georgia, while St. Edwards enters the contest with a 5-3 record following its 57-48 loss Tuesday at Tarleton State.
