Day Joined on First Team by Sammy Macy and Katie Enaire
LOWELL (Dec. 7, 2010) – Senior midfielder Liz Day (North Andover, Mass.) can add two more accolades to her long list of accomplishments this season. She was named the National Field Hockey Coaches Association 2010 Division II North Region Player of the Year and was tabbed to the Longstreth/NFHCA DII All-American First Team.
She was joined on the First Team by classmates Katie Enaire (Amesbury, Mass.) and Sammy Macy (Tewksbury, Mass.), while UMass Lowell’s Jaime Hadley (Chelmsford, Mass.), Annie Hansbury (Plaistow, N.H.) and Melanie Hopkins (Harwich, Mass.) were Second Team selections.
In addition to scoring the game-winning goal in the National Championship game on Saturday, Day has also racked up Northeast-10 Player of the Year, NE-10 Tournament Most Outstanding Player, NCAA All-Tournament Team and First Team All-Conference honors in 2010.
She finished the year with a personal-best 42 points (14g, 14a) and started all 24 games. During her four year career, she has appeared in all 95 games the River Hawks have played since she stepped foot on campus in 2007.

Macy is making her third appearance on the First Team after an offensively explosive senior campaign where she broke her own record for points in a season (76) and became the program’s all-time leading scorer with 220 career points (91g, 38a).
She was named to the NCAA and NE-10 All-Tournament Teams and was an NE-10 First Team All-Conference selection, once again.

Enaire is a two-time All-American after being named to the Second Team last year. During her senior season, she tied the program record for goals in a season (30) and finished the year with a personal-best 69 points. She was named to the NE-10 All-Conference First Team and both NE-10 and NCAA All-Tournament Teams.
She lifted the River Hawks through the NCAA Semifinal with a six-point performance (2g, 2a) in a 5-1 win over Stonehill. She finished her career the second all-time leading scorer in program history with 178 points (79g, 20a).
Enaire is the daughter of Bill and Anne Enaire of Amesbury, Mass.

Hopkins, the NE-10 Goalkeeper of the Year and NE-10 All-Conference First Team and All-Rookie Selection, was named to the Second Team for her stellar freshman campaign in the cage. She broke the NCAA DII Record for goalkeeper shutouts in a single season (16), starting all 24 games and finishing the year with a 0.35 GAA and .911 save percentage.
She was also named to the NCAA All-Tournament team for allowing just one goal over the two-game stretch leading to the River Hawks’ second NCAA Championship in program history.
Hopkins is the daughter of Julie Ann Hopkins of Harwich, Mass. and John Hopkins, Sr. of Wakefield, Mass.
Head Coach Shannon Hlebichuk has now coached 35 All-Americans in her nine years at the helm of the UMass Lowell field hockey program. Her team’s single-season highest number of selections was previously five (in 2004 and 2005), a mark which was broken by this year’s six-member selection class.
The River Hawks secured the program’s second NCAA Division II National Championship on Saturday, completing their perfect 24-0 season. The squad will be honored in a “Celebrating Perfection” rally held at the Tsongas Center on Friday, Dec. 10 at 3:00 p.m. More information is available on www.GoRiverHawks.com(.)
