Georgia College Drops Peach Belt Opener to #2 Lander 83-67

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The women’s hoops team at Georgia College (5-1, 0-1 PBC) lost its first game of the season Saturday to No. 2 Lander University (8-0, 3-0 PBC) 83-67 in the Georgia College Peach Belt Conference (PBC) opener.

GC had three players, Chimere Jordan (Gray, Ga.), Tammeisha Law (Athens, Ga.) and Dominique Huffin (Tucker, Ga.), score in double figures. Jordan had a team-best 20 points, adding nine boards-six on the defensive glass-and three assists. Law recorded 12 points and five rebounds, while Huffin scored 10 points and snagged five rebounds. Huffin now has 994 career points at Georgia College.

Sophomore Karisma Boykin (Carrollton, Ga.) almost completed a double-double with 10 rebounds and nine points.

Lander led the entire game but the Bobcats managed to get within four with 5:44 left in the first half after a jumper in the paint by Law. However, Lander went on a 15-3 run to end the first half and extend their lead to 46-30.

In the second half, GC got as close to 10 points twice and was able to keep up with the Bearcats as both teams netted 37 points. The pressure defense and large lead for Lander was too much to overcome as Georgia College lost 83-67.

Lander also had three players score in double figures as Shannon McKever recorded a double-double with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Jasmine Judge led all scorers with 24 points off eight three pointers. Tasheba Butler added 11 points and eight boards, while Nardia Robbins aided with eight assists for the Bearcats.

The Bobcats outscored Lander 26-24 off points in the paint. Lander beat GC 30-17 on points off turnovers and 19-8 on bench points. The two teams tied for second chance points at 14.

Georgia College will have short break due to finals and return home Thursday, Dec. 16 at 5:30 p.m. against Winston-Salem State University.
