Felician Women's Basketball Begins CACC Slate with Victory

Golden Falcons Top Concordia, 80-67
           
RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Senior guard Tierra Cleaves (Paterson, NJ/John F. Kennedy) recorded game highs of 21 points and seven assists as Felician College earned an 80-67 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference North Division women’s basketball victory over visiting Concordia (N.Y.) College on Wednesday evening at Job Gymnasium. The game was the 2010-11 CACC opener for both schools.
           
Felician (3-1, 1-0), which led 44-39 at halftime, maintained a 57-51 edge with 12 minutes, 10 seconds to play in the game. The Golden Falcons then took control with a 12-0 run over the next four minutes, with the resultant 18-point bulge their largest of the game. Concordia could not close its deficit within single digits for the rest of the night.
           
Cleaves shot 8 for 14 from the field and added three steals in 37 minutes of action. Felician received double-doubles from senior Quay Baskerville (Hartford, CT/Bulkeley) (17 points, 11 rebounds) and junior Jessica Ford (Jersey City, NJ/St. Anthony) (14 points, 14 rebounds). Shelly Monahan (Exeter, RI) paced four double-figure scorers for the Clippers with 16 points.

Concordia (1-4, 0-1) erased an early 15-4 deficit to take a 22-20 lead just over 10 minutes into the game. The first half contained five ties and four lead changes before Felician closed the period with a 7-2 spurt to take a five-point lead into the locker room.
