DULUTH, Minn. – A physical win over the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs gave the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team their first conference sweep of the season as they open league play with a 2-0 record. The final score of the game was 76-71.
Senior Betsy Dickson had a career high 17 points as she and Angie Jetvig led the team with a combined 36 points in the game. Jetvig led the field with 19 points; she also had four rebounds and a block. Dickson went 2-for-4 from long range in the game and hit 9-of-12 from the free throw line. She went 8-for-8 from the charity stripe in the second half, all of which came in the final four and a half minutes of the game.
Tied at 34 at halftime, the Dragons slowly built up to a 12 point lead that was started on a three-pointer by Kaycee Charette at the 9:31 mark. Junior Abby Reiter hit a three-pointer at 6:08 to cap the 13-2 run for the Dragons.
The Bulldogs cut the lead to two with 1:55 left to play but MSUM hit 9-of-10 free throws in the final two minutes to cap the game with a five point win. The game was a physical battle as there were 51 fouls combined for the two teams, with the Dragons hitting 21-of-27 free throws in the game.
The Dragons again out-rebounded their opponent, grabbing nine more boards than the Bulldogs. Dickson had seven boards while Megan Strese had eight to lead the team.
MSU Moorhead will host Dickinson State on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 6 p.m. in their final non-conference game of the season.
