Men's Soccer Trio Takes Part In NEISL All-Star Game

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - A trio of Saint Michael's College men's soccer seniors - midfielder Ryan Gannon (Colchester, Conn./Bacon Academy/CCSU) and defenders Blake Schill (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex/Worcester Academy) and Andrew Scanlon (East Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich/Worcester Academy) - were selected to the 2010 New England Intercollegiate Soccer League (NEISL) Division II All-Star roster. They played against an All-star Division I squad on Sunday at Harvard University, and helped their team earn a 1-1 tie. It is the first time that Saint Michael's has had three seniors named to the all-star squad.

"It is a great honor to have these three seniors represent Saint Michael's College at the Senior All-Star Game," said men's soccer head coach James Franklin. "They have been rewarded for dedicating themselves to Saint Michael's and our men's soccer program, and it is wonderful they received recognition for their efforts and high level of play."

Gannon was one of the top playmakers in the Northeast-10 Conference in 2010, finishing tied for fourth in the league with six assists. He started all 17 games for the Purple Knights as a senior, and led the team in assists and points (12). He also had a team-high three game-winning goals as a senior.

Schill, like Gannon an assistant captain in 2010, tied for the team lead with four goals. He played in every game, started all but one, and was tied second on the team with nine points. He earned NE-10 All-Conference Second Team honors for the second straight season.

Scanlon anchored a strong Purple Knights' defense in 2010. He started every game, and led the team's non-goaltenders with 1,523 minutes played (of a possible 1,611 minutes). Scanlon also contributed a goal and an assist in 2010.

Gannon, Schill and Scanlon helped lead Saint Michael's to a 7-6-4 record in 2010, the program's second straight winning season. The Purple Knights rose as high as seventh in the HendrickCars.com/NSCAA Division II East Region Rankings this past fall.

All three players are expected to graduate from Saint Michael's in May, Gannon with a degree in biology, and Schill and Scanlon with degrees in business administration.
