Mars Hill Men's Soccer Takes Out LMU in SAC Quarterfinals

Lions advance to SAC Semifinals on Friday at 6 p.m.

HARROGATE, Tenn. - Giovanni Malnati (Guayaquil, Ecuador) scored a goal in the 67th minute as the fifth-seeded Mars Hill men's soccer team defeated fourth-seeded Lincoln Memorial, 1-0, in the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament Quarterfinals. The Lions (13-4-1) defeated the Railsplitters (10-6-1) for the second straight year in the tournament quarterfinals and advance to the semifinals for the second straight season.

After a scoreless first half, Rury Caulfield (Glasgow, Scotland) struck the ball on a free kick to Malnati who chipped the ball over Michael Watkins to give Mars Hill the victory.

Zac Scott (Pittsboro, N.C.) recorded nine saves for the Lions. Watkins made three saves for Lincoln Memorial.

The Railsplitters outshot Mars Hill, 31-12, and held an edge in corner kicks, 10-5.

The Lions will face the winner of the Brevard/Wingate game in one tournament semifinal game on Friday at 6 p.m. in Rock Hill, S.C. The game will take place at Manchester Meadows.
