COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Click here the view the sixth Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's basketball release of the 2010-11 season. Included in Monday's release are league standings, a list of last week's results, a schedule of upcoming games, a look at the national polls as well as preseason conference awards and rankings.
The Adams State College Grizzlies fell for the first time in 2010-11 Saturday, dropping an 85-76 decision at RMAC Preseason favorite Fort Lewis on Saturday evening. The Grizzlies committed 41 total fouls in the game, just one shy of an RMAC record, and the most ever in a conference game. That allowed Fort Lewis to go to the free throw line a RMAC record 64 times.
The Grizzlies are now 5-1 overall and 2-1 in RMAC play, good to be in a tie for fifth place in the early-season overall standings. They lead the RMAC in seven team statistical categories and have individual statistical leaders in both free throw percentage (Seth Heinbaugh, .615) and steals per game (Marqus Richards, 2.5/game).
The Grizzlies, who have won six straight home games dating back to last season, return home for the first time in a month on Sunday (Dec. 19) facing arch-rival Western State (1-7, 0-4 RMAC). They then host Mesa State (6-2, 2-2 RMAC) on Monday, Dec. 20. Both games tip-off at 8 p.m. in Plachy Hall following the 6 p.m. women's clashes against the same opponents.
The Grizzlies defeated both teams at home near the end of the 2009-10 season and have won five of their last six at home against Mesa State, which plays at Fort Lewis on Sunday evening before venturing into Plachy Hall. The Grizzlies have also won two of their last three at home against Western State.
