Boca Raton, Fla. – Lynn University’s men’s basketball team dropped its season opener to Northern Michigan, 69-61, Saturday night at the PBA Tip-Off Classic at Palm Beach Atlantic’s Rubin Arena. Terrell Williams led the Fighting Knights with 12 points.
Making his debut in the Blue & White, Williams went 4-of-7 from the field and 4-of-6 from the line to pace the offense for Lynn. The La Salle University transfer also grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists.
Also chipping in on the offensive end were junior college transfers Josh Garcia with 10 points and Jimmy Gaskins with nine. Bo Jukic had a solid season opener with eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds while Chris hall scored eight points on just 2-of-12 shooting.
Jared Benson led NMU with 14 points, while Matthew Craggs scored 12 and DeAndre Taylor chipped in with 11.
The Wildcats took control of the game early, feeding the six-foot-10 big man Benson inside, leading to some easy layups. NMU went into the locker room at the half up by ten, 36-26 as Lynn struggled shooting the ball, going 27.6 percent from the floor.
NMU got out fast to start the second half pushing its lead to 13 at 50-37, but the Knights would fight back. Lynn went on an 18-8 run over the next eight minutes to cut the lead to 60-57 with just over two minutes to play.
That would be as close as LU would get as foul troubled plagued the much smaller Fighting Knights as Williams, Craig Brown and Jovan Robinson all fouled out in the closing minutes.
LU (0-1) is back in action Wednesday, November 17, when they travel to St. Thomas (Fla.) for a 7 pm tip.
