HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Senior Liam Kyle (Cleveland, Ohio) started his final collegiate season off with a bang, as he scored 40 points tying Coker’s record for most points in a single game in the Cobras 101-83 victory over the Morris College Hornets on Wednesday night. In addition to Kyle’s 40 points, he also pulled down 12 rebounds and had four steals.
The Cobras stormed out the gate with a 21-3 run in the first five minutes of play. Morris did manage to claw their way back, but the Cobras took a 52-34 lead into halftime. An evenly matched second half got Morris a little bit closer, but the first half deficit was too much to overcome.
Coker shot 61 percent from the floor and was 26-for-39 (66.7%) from the charity stripe, while Morris shot just 41 percent from the field, but they shot 77.3 percent from the free throw line, including an outstanding 92 percent in the second half.
Along with Kyle’s 40 points, Coker was led by Delonte Doles’ (Roswell, Ga.) 18 points, while Joselle Bracy (Ruby, S.C.) and Tom Wright (Sydney Australia) each had 15 points with Bracy grabbing 6 rebounds.
Andreaus Canty led the Hornets with 22 points and Quantrez Frankiln had 19 points and was a perfect 9-for-9 from the charity stripe. Landerius Franklin added in 10 points for Morris as well.
Coker takes to the court again this weekend in the Francis Marion Tournament. The Cobras take on the host Patriots on Friday night at 8:00 p.m., followed by a game against UNC-Pembroke at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
