Hussey, Saliga, Stanek sign with Mars Hill

MARS HILL, N.C. - At the conclusion of the week for NCAA early signings, the Mars Hill softball program walked away with three commitments from Taylor Hussey, Kayla Saliga and Robyn Stanek. Each player has the potential to contribute to the program as early as their freshmen season.

Taylor Hussey (Randleman, N.C.) is a pitcher from Randleman High School. She has all of the tools necessary to compete and will be a good addition to the pitching staff. During her junior season in 2010, she had a .429 BA, with a 1.40 ERA in the circle. She posted 115 strikeouts, 5 shutouts and 3 no-hitters, which led her to be named Piedmont Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year. She has twice won a Gold Medal competing in the State Games of North Carolina as a member of the Region 5 team (2008, 2009). In 2010 Region 5, she recorded a Bronze Medal finish. She plays travel ball for the Carolina Attitude, coached by Ron Plemmons.

Kayla Saliga (Asheboro, N.C.) is a catcher from Eastern Randolph High School, the 2010 North Carolina 2A State Champions. She is a contact hitter that has the ability to produce big hits and will be a great addition offensively upon her arrival, as well as providing a strong presence behind the plate. As a junior, she compiled some impressive offensive numbers with a .443 BA, 32 runs, and 28 RBIs. At the conclusion of the 2010 Season, Saliga was named All-Conference, All-District, and All-State. She plays Travel Ball for the Carolina Wildcats, coached by Jeff McPhail, who competed in the ASA Nationals in Hemet, Calif., this past summer.

Robyn Stanek (Winston Salem, N.C.) is an infielder from North Davidson High School, the 2010 North Carolina 4A State Champions. North Davidson, coached by Mike Lambros, also earned the No. 1 National Ranking in the final USA Today High School Softball Poll for 2010. Stanek is an excellent offensive and defensive player that will bring a consistent bat and solid glove with her to Mars Hill next fall. As a Junior, she hit .527, with 13 doubles, 5 triples, racked up 32 RBI and scored 32 Runs. She has been named All-Conference in each of her first three high school seasons and has twice been named All-District and All-State (2009, 2010).
