ANCHORAGE (Nov. 24) - Senior guard Kristi Kingma scored 14 points and grabbed four steals Wednesday to lead Washington to a 49-27 victory over San Jose State in the third-place game of the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout women's tournament at Sullivan Arena.
Fellow starting guard Mercedes Wetmore tallied 10 points and five assists for the Huskies (2-2), who set a record for fewest points allowed in a Shootout game. The previous record was set by San Diego State in a 71-34 victory over Notre Dame in 1981.
The Spartans (0-6) were led by seven points and seven rebounds from forward Brittany Johnson, but the Western Athletic Conference squad committed 31 turnovers and shot just 27.3 percent.
Junior center Mackenzie Argens added seven points, four rebounds and five assists for the Huskies.
