Hot Start Continues As Spartans Bounce Southeastern

TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (7-0) men's basketball team continued to build on its best start since 2001 with a 70-61 victory over visiting Southeastern (Fla.) University (6-4) on Monday night at the Bob Martinez Sports Center.

The Spartans overcame an early deficit and took the lead for good at 14-12 with 11:33 to play in the first. Tampa would take a 33-22 advantage to the half as it led by as many as 20 points in the second half to claim the victory.

Four Spartan starters netted double figures in points as Anthony Griffis led the way with 15. Glyn Hunter added 13 as Ashton Graham and Rashad Callaway totaled 12 and 10 points respectively. Hunter connected on 4-for-6 from 3-point range as Callaway hit all four of his free throws.

Hunter also led UT with six rebounds as Callaway held team honors with six assists and five steals.

Tampa connected on 10 3-pointers, compared to just one by the Fire. Southeastern outshot the Spartans 47.9 to 44.1 percent as UT edged its opponents on the boards 32-31. The Spartans also forced 22 Southeastern turnovers.

UT plays its first Sunshine State Conference contest on Saturday as it travels to Miami Shores to meet Barry University on Saturday at 4 p.m. Live stats will be available through www.tampaspartans.com by clicking on the schedule and following the link for stats.
