RICHARDSON, TEXAS Texas A&M-Kingsville sophomore Victoria Gonzalez (Hidalgo/Hidalgo HS) was named the Lone Star Conference South Division Defensive Player of the Week on Monday by the conference office.
Gonzalez had an outstanding week in leading the Javelinas to a 1-1 record. First, she fought through a tough shooting performance against Our Lady of the Lake to grab a career high 22 rebounds with 13 coming on the offensive end. She led the team with 16 points and four blocks in the 63-44 win. She came back with a 13-point, 17-rebound game on the road at East Central in a 66-62 loss. The two rebounding performances are the top two in the LSC this year. She averaged 14.5 points, 19.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game for the week.
Gonzalez is averaging a double-double for the season with 11.0 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. The Javelinas are back in action on Thursday night at 6 p.m. at home against Northeastern State.
