Golden Eagle Volleyball Closes Out 2010 Season with Senior Day

(Crookston, Minn.)- The Golden Eagle Volleyball team said goodbye this afternoon to three seniors. Jennifer Hecht (DS, 5-8, Sr, Cedar, Mich.), Alyssa Krikke (MH, 6-0, Sr, Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Shannon Cologna (S, 5-8, Sr, Peoria, Ariz.) each played their last game in Lysaker Gymnasium. The last game of the 2010 season matched former UMC coach Dave Simon and his Winona State Warriors against Minnesota, Crookston. WSU was down early in set number one but rallied late and used the momentum to defeat UMC 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-14).
 
The Golden Eagles were led by Danielle Rueter (OH, 5-9, So, Burlington, Wis.) who tallied nine kills and only three errors for a .231 attack percentage. She added a game-high two service aces and 10 defensive digs. Cologna assisted on 19 of the 28 total kills for the Golden Eagles. At the setter position she has amassed 1,395 set assists. She ranks 4th in Golden Eagle history in assists and 4th in UMC history in assists per set with 7.54.  Chelsea Wiesner (L, 5-8, Fr, Rochester, Minn.) earned a match-high 20 defensive digs. Senior Jennifer Hecht tallied one assist and four digs on the night while Alyssa Krikke added three kills and three defensive digs.
 
Winona State was led by Jessi Peterson who earned 11 kills. Setter Elena Kruesel tallied 37 assists while Bekah Saugen and Shannon McGowan tied for a team-high in digs with 16.
 
The Golden Eagles are 0-28 overall and 0-20 in NSIC play. Winona State improves to 12-16 overall and 7-13 in conference play.
